Program Options

Criminal Justice

CCC’s Criminal Justice program prepares you for entry-level careers in law enforcement, courts, corrections, and public safety through an online, flexible AAS degree or a transfer AA degree. This is a workforce program designed to move you directly into a career in the criminal justice field.

Basic Detention Academy

The Basic Detention Academy provides entry-level training for detention officer staff in partnership with the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. Students must be hired by CCSO before enrolling.

High Country Training Academy

The High Country Training Academy is an AZPOST-accredited law enforcement training academy located at CCC’s Lone Tree Campus. The academy serves agency-sponsored recruits from Flagstaff Police Department, NAU Police Department, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, and other agencies.

Careers in Public Safety

Public safety professionals serve communities across Northern Arizona and the nation. Criminal justice careers in this region include positions with municipal police departments, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, NAU and other campus law enforcement, tribal police agencies, federal law enforcement including U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service officers, courts and probation, and corrections and detention facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which program is right for me if I want to become a police officer?
If you are preparing for a career in law enforcement and are not yet hired by an agency, the Criminal Justice AAS is your starting point. It gives you the academic foundation for a law enforcement career. Once hired by a participating agency, you would attend the High Country Training Academy for your basic police training. If you are already hired by an agency, contact the HCTA directly to discuss enrollment.
Can I get into the Detention Academy or the High Country Training Academy on my own?
No. Both programs require you to be hired by a participating agency before you can enroll. They are not open-enrollment programs. If you are interested in a career in law enforcement or corrections, start with the Criminal Justice AAS or contact the agencies directly about employment opportunities.
Are these programs available online?
The Criminal Justice AAS is currently offered online and is available to students at all CCC campuses. The Detention Academy and High Country Training Academy are in-person programs.
